 is the Head of Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Landspitali-University Hospital, Reykjavik, Iceland, and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine within the School of Health Sciences at the University of Iceland.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Iceland. Licensed general practice and specialist in psychiatry in Iceland. He is engaged in teaching at the University of Iceland and in multiprofessional training events.
Halldór holds membership in various professional societies: The Icelandic Medical Association, the Association of European Psychiatrists, the Scandinavian College of Neuro-Psychopharmacology, the American Psychiatric Association (International Member) and the International Psychogeriatric Association.
His focus of research activities includes studies in the fields of Psychophysiology, Psychopharmacology, Clinical Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry. Present research activities include studies of Genetic Approaches to Mood and Anxiety Disorders in Iceland. Epidemiological study on the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk factors in schizophrenic patients in Iceland. Evaluating Quality of life, research where outcome measurements in psychiatric rehabilitation Day Center is evaluated.
From beginning in 1999, Halldór has been active participant in the development of the interRAI in Iceland. The interRAI-MH instrument has been in electronic use from 2007 at the rehabilitation and long-term psychiatric units. Halldór is participating in steering committee of the interRAI project at the Division of Psychiatry Landspitali-University Hospital. The committee is currently involved in activating the interRAI ESP and CMH instruments in the Mental Health sector in Iceland. Halldór Kolbeinsson is an associated member of interRAI since 2009.
