Emergency Department (ED)
The interRAI Emergency Department (ED) Assessment System comprises two linked components: the interRAI Emergency Department (ED) Screener and the interRAI Emergency Department (ED) Contact Assessment (ED-CA). The Screener is designed to be completed at arrival at the ED, in order to identify patients who may require more in-depth assessment (including the interRAI ED-CA). It is usually completed in under one minute. It is available free of charge as an Application in both Android and Apple formats from the relevant App sites for use on mobile devices.
The interRAI ED-CA is a brief, yet thorough, assessment system comprising 39 clinical observations. Its most important use is to support the assessment of patients who are proposed for a direct discharge home from the ED, yet who appear to have problems that demand careful discharge preparation and potentially ongoing support. However, if applied to patients who are ultimately admitted to an acute or rehabilitative care setting, it provides valuable information to prepare the patient for this next phase of care.
