Background
The interRAI Community Health Assessment (CHA) was developed in response to user requests for a modular instrument that could efficiently assess the well elderly individual and identify those persons who merit further assessment in order to prevent or stabilize early functional or health decline. The CHA contains a brief basic assessment and three supplements: functional supplement, assisted living, and mental health.
Target Population
Adults living in the community and a variety of residential care settings.
Adoption and Use
There has been great interest in the interRAI CHA, particularly from Continuing Care Retirement Communities. interRAI representatives have formed a joint venture with the Kendal Corporation to evaluate the CHA's utility, develop software and training programs to support its use and seek additional CCRC partners interested in participating in longitudinal studies of their residents. As of Fall 2008, over 75 communities are taking part in this cooperative initiative.
