Susan Wood, RGON BScAdvN, MNS, FCNA
Director of Quality and Patient Safety

I have been a nurse for 40 years. My focus has been on learning, improving processes and health outcomes. Roles such as Director, Quality and Patient Safety for Canterbury and West Coast District Health Boards (current) and as Director of Nursing (16 years), Quality Improvement Co-ordinator Royal Melbourne Hospital (7 years) have provided opportunities to support innovation and its spread.

Areas of development have been nursing interRAI admission assessment, nursing workload measurement and management and safe staffing (national Co-Chair for 5 years), structures and processes to systematically progress nursing knowledge and skills development, nurse practitioner development (national Committee member 10 years), and health IT (National Board member 3 years). These are all underpinned by measurement and a by-product has been expertise in change management.
