Xiaomei Pei, PhD
Dr. Pei is professor at the Department of Sociology, Tsinghua University, Beijing. She has been teaching and researching in the areas of medical sociology, social gerontology, and social welfare since 1999. Dr. Pei received her PhD degree in sociology from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas, USA, in 1996.
Between 1996 and 1998, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development, Duke University Medical School, on the project of “Panel Study of the Social Factors that Affect the Health of Older Elderly.” Serving as the executive director of Tsinghua University Gerontology Center, she has conducted many research projects on aging in China and internationally. She has also been involved in the activities of the interRAI organization as a Fellow since 2004, working actively in the area of community and elderly health care assessment. Her current projects include social care for the elderly, international comparison of medical institutions, and community development.
