Rakel Valdimarsdottir, RN, MHRM
Rakel Valdimarsdottir is a Registered Nurse in Geriatrics Services at Landspitali University Hospital in Reykjavik, Iceland. Her main projects are development, implementation and training health workers in interRAI instruments. She consults several of the interRAI instruments, most recently the interRAI Post Acute Care (PAC), with a focus on improving outcomes and quality of care through better use of health information. She has a BSc degree in nursing and master's degree in human resources management from the University of Iceland. She has further education in nursing administration and critical care nursing from UCSB in California.
Ms. Valdimarsdottir has served as an assistant director and director of nursing in a multispecidity hospital in Iceland, as a staff nurse and department head nurse in California, and as a staff nurse and department head nurse in a health center and in departments of internal medicine, psychiatry and as a staff nurse in geriatrics, and held several administrative positions in nursing and human resources in Iceland. She participated in the implementation of ORACLE HR for the public sector at the Ministry of Finance in Iceland. She led the adoption and implementation of the computerized application of the interRAI Mental Health (MH), interRAI Emergency Screener for Psychiatry (ESP), and interRAI Community Mental Health (CMH) in the Mental Health Services at Landspitali. She has been co-supervisor for several research projects, written educational material and booklets on nursing administration, quality control, and human resource management. She has served on committees and participated in corporate strategy planning and creation of quality standards in health care. She is a current member of interRAI and has been working with the organization since 2006.
